ALICANTO is a scientific journal of annual, digital publication, edited by the Department of Languages, attached to the Faculty of Humanities and Education of the University of Atacama, which seeks to disseminate research in the areas of literature, linguistics and education. A particularity of this journal is that it includes studies dedicated to both Spanish-speaking countries and English-speaking countries, so that research papers can be written in Spanish or English.

The main objectives of the journal are:

  • Promote and support research in the above mentioned areas.
  • Create spaces to stimulate the exchange of ideas among scholars of different specialties.
  • Provide a space for theoretical and practical studies not only of literature but also of linguistics, cultural studies and education.
  • Deliver a variety of critical perspectives, philosophical positions and ideological approaches regarding the subject matter.

Thematic areas of interest for ALICANTO are the theoretical-empirical and / or practical treatment of linguistics, literature and education, from its various modalities and dimensions. The dissemination of knowledge in these areas is sought to promote the improvement of research, which directly benefits the academy as recipients in the scientific community: researchers in linguistics, literature, language teachers, among others.

In relation to publications in the area of Literature, those contributions directly related to problems, reflections, state of the art, didactic-methodological experiences or theoretical deepening related to Spanish-American and Anglo-Saxon literature are published. All this with the intention of promoting new knowledge and updated proposals around the different topics related to this thematic area. Likewise, spaces are sought for the publication of works in areas that are closely related to the main line, such as dramaturgy, poetry and literature in general.

In the area of Linguistics, works that generate reflections, analyzes and questions to the theoretical budgets already established in the thematic areas immersed within this discipline are published. Additionally, it seeks to promote works that generate new knowledge within this area, or those associated with it, including: theoretical or applied linguistics (discourse analysis, phonetics, pragmatics, semantics, sociolinguistics, translation studies, among others) and those related to the development of skills, abilities and competences associated with the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language.

In the field of Education, all theoretical and practical contributions related to didactic-methodological aspects, curriculum and training, and all those related to innovative teaching experiences are considered.

ALICANTO is not committed to any ideological or political position and the published works only represent and express the opinion of their authors. In addition, it states that the originality and integrity of the articles are the sole responsibility of the authors, exempting the journal from any commitment in this regard.
